Railroad Crossing Closure at Appleton Street

Railroad Crossing Closure at Appleton Street

Office of the Commissioner of Railroads - Final Decision

The Office of the Commissioner of Railroads and Canadian Railroad (CN) have ordered the Appleton Street railroad crossing to be closed rather than repaired.

Last year, the City of Menasha put in a request to repair the railroad crossing at Appleton Street due to complaints.  The Wisconsin Central Railroad petitioned for a Public Hearing on June 24, 2020.  The proposed ruling was issued on October 8, 2020, to with the City of Menasha responded with the request to make the needed repairs, stating a closure could present safety issues for emergency response.  The Wisconsin Central Railroad and CN disagreed and ordered the crossing to be closed.  A new turn around will be constructed in spring and the curb continued through the intersection on the north side of the crossing.
