K-9
Corps
At
the end of 2007 the Menasha Police Department put out a Help Wanted request
to the community to assist us in problem solving a growing drug trend
and the recent issues of gang activity in the parks. Our initial request
was followed by a group of citizens, neighborhood watch participants,
citizen academy alumni and local business leaders who answered the call.
Since January of 2008 they have developed a group and are working on a
strategy to fundraise $35,000 for the upfront costs of initiating a K-9
unit in Menasha. Feel free to check out their website: www.k-9Corps.org
They would greatly appreciate your support. Click

LOCK
UP A COP A HUGE SUCCESS. Officers
raise over $8,000 for Special Olympics.
On
September 8 & 9, 2006 law enforcement from across the Fox Valley area
spent the weekend behind bars in an event called Lock Up a Cop to benefit
Special Olympics Fox Valley Area. (pictured are l-r in orange Craig
Paltz and Blair Draxler, top left in stripes Mark Boerboom, and in uniform
is Stu Zeuhls.)
Over
60 officers participated in the fundraising event over the weekend at
the Neenah Wal-Mart. The officers were locked up from 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
both days and looked to Wal-Mart shoppers to make contributions to bail
them out. The event raised over $8,500.00 for Special Olympics Wisconsin
Fox Valley Area.
The
Menasha Police Department played a huge role in the success of this first
time event. Several Menasha officers and auxiliary officers volunteered
their time to sit behind bars and collect pledges for Special Olympics.
Officer Mark Boerboom, who served on the planning committee for this event,
was one of the officers who came up with this unique idea for a new event.
Officer Boerboom, volunteered his time to construct the jail cell that
was used for the event. Auxiliary officer Scott Stiles volunteered his
time to DJ and emcee the event and several other officers spent time behind
bars.

On December 10th and 11th 2004, City of Menasha officers participated in
the Rooftop Challenge. Our officers along with about 144 other volunteers
braved cold and wet weather to raise over $6000 for the Wisconsin Special
Olympics. The City of Menasha police department is proud to continue a longstanding
partnership with Special Olympics. |
Officer
Mark Boerboom is named "2004 Law Enforcement Volunteer of the Year".
In a speech from the special olympics committee they state,
"Officer Boerboom of the Menasha Police Department is a true example
of outstanding commitment to Special Olympics by playing a major role in
planning all four of Fox Valley area's Law Enforcement Torch Run Events.
His good and hard work and enthusiasm not only created awareness of Special
Olympics within the local police departments, but led to the recruitment
of new police officers to become involved with Special Olympics. With his
help, over 35 law enforcement officers took part in the 2003 Shopko Rooftop
Challenge. Nearly half of those who participated were Menasha police officers
and other personnel. Officer Boerboom went above and beyond expectations
when he constructed a shelter, complete with heaters and Christmas lights
for the roof sitters. Serving as Outdoor Logistics Coordinator for the 2004
Polar Plunge, he was responsible for all of the outdoor set-up and much
of the Polar Plunge planning. His role required countless hours of commitment
and meetings of which he never missed one. The other volunteers for the
event considered him a fabulous leader and looked to him for direction.
Because of his involvement, commitment and devotion, the Polar Plunge shattered
the records of all previous events by raising $113,000 for Special Olympics.
Therefore, Special Olympics is proud to name Officer Mark Boerboom as the
2004 Law Enforcement Volunteer of the Year." |
