Menasha's Recycling Program

Residential recyclables are collected curbside once per month on your regular refuse collection day. There are 3 different collection cycles in the City of Menasha . Recycling schedules for your specific neighborhood are provided with your yearly recycling material or by contacting the PWF.

When preparing your recyclables for collection, please observe the following:

RECYCLE THESE PAPER PRODUCTS:

Paper
(co-mingle, bundle and/or place in paper bags or container not to exceed 50 pounds):

  • newspapers and paper grocery bags
  • magazines, catalogs, paperbacks and phone books
  • corrugated cardboard (with wavy inside layer)
  • chipboard/fiberboard (cereal boxes, beverage boxes, etc.)
  • junk mail (solicitations, advertisements, etc.)
  • office paper (printing and writing paper)

RECYCLE THESE CONTAINERS:

Containers (co-mingle items, place in transparent or clear recycle bags or approved hard-side recycling containers-not to exceed 50 pounds):

  • aluminum and tin cans
  • #1 and #2 plastic narrow neck bottles - NO CAPS
  • glass bottles and jars (green, brown, and clear) - REMOVE CAPS & LIDS

THROW THESE ITEMS AWAY:

  • paper plates and napkins
  • pizza boxes or paper with food on it
  • waxed paper or waxed boxes
  • aluminum foil
  • plastics marked #3 through #7
  • plastic toys, baskets, bags, etc.
  • tops from glass jars and caps from plastic bottles
  • plastic motor or vegetable oil bottles
  • plastic bottles with wide necks (cottage cheese, margarine tubs, etc.)
  • window glass, ceramics, drinking glasses, mirrors, and light bulbs

As a reminder, the City of Menasha no longer supplies blue recycling bags to our residents.

We now allow our resident an option to use any remaining previously delivered blue recycling bags, purchase approved transparent or clear recycling bags or an approved hard plastic container as a device for co-mingled glass, plastic, aluminum and tin recyclables.

The following approved containers are available locally at Kitz & Pfeil True Value Hardware , 1212 Appleton Rd. , Menasha.

  • Rubbermaid 33 gallon model #2894 (blue)
  • Rubbermaid 33 gallon model #2894 (green)
  • Rubbermaid 33 gallon wheeled model #1339 (brown)

When you purchase a container from Kitz & Pfeil , as a convenience, stickers to identify the container will be given to you there. Inform the person at the checkout that the cart purchased will be used in the City of Menasha recycling program and stickers will be provided to you. The above referenced approved containers may also be available for purchase from other local stores.

Should you currently have a different type of container you would like to use, it will need to be approved for use. Alternative containers will need to be brought to our office for approval. At that time, you will receive two (2) stickers to attach and identify the container as acceptable for collection of co-mingled glass, plastic, aluminum and tin recyclables.

When positioning your container for co-mingled and paper recycling collection, please:

  • locate your container at least 5 feet from your blue refuse cart, poles or trees that may interfere with collection.
  • we suggest lids remain off when put out for collection unless the weather is extremely windy or rainy at which time the lid will help keep material from blowing out and rain accumulating in the container.

It is suggested you identify your recycling container and lid with your street address and/or name. By doing so, if the container or lid is involuntarily moved from your address, it will help with returning it to you. This can be done with paint or a permanent maker.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN PREPARING RECYCLABLES FOR COLLECTION:

  • Co-mingled glass, plastic, aluminum and tin will only be collected when placed in an APPROVED hard plastic container or APPROVED transparent or clear recyclable bags keeping within the 50# weight limitation.
  • Approved recyclable bags will be clear or transparent in color. Black, brown, green or white garbage bags are not an approved bag for recycling.
  • Blue recyclable bags you may have left from the City of Menasha 's previous deliveries are approved recyclable bags and can be used until they are gone.
  • When purchasing recyclable bags, the packaging will include wording that the bag is a recyclable bag.
  • All paper products can be co-mingled together (cardboard, chip board, newspapers, magazines, junk mail and paperbacks).
  • We suggest you use paper grocery bags, small boxes, or a hard plastic container (not to exceed the size of a laundry basket with a 50# weight limit) to hold your paper for recycling collection.
  • The Recycling Center at the Public Works Facility can be used to dispose of recyclables outside of the monthly curbside collection from your address.
