MENASHA POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES AWARD FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE 2010 CLICK IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN
The City of Menasha Police Department was awarded for its participation in the 2010 Click It Or Ticket campaign which started on May 24th and continued through June 6th. A plaque was given to Chief Robert Stanke by Terry Askey from the Wisconsin DOT. The City of Menasha received a $4,000 grant to be used towards updating and/or purhasing equipment for the department.
The ultimate goal of this campaign is to reduce the number of preventable traffic deaths to zero in Wisconsin. That’s why we urge you to buckle up every trip, every time, day or night. By taking a few seconds to fasten your safety belt, you can avoid the delay of a traffic stop, the expense of a ticket, and the frighteningly real possibility of a violent death.

Fox Valley Police Agencies to crackdown on impaired motorists during statewide ‘Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.’ Campaign Starting Friday
Fox Valley Metro P.D. and Menasha P.D. will mobilize as non-grant funded police agencies along, with other grant funded and non-funded law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin for the annual “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” crackdown on impaired motorists from Aug. 20 to Sept. 6.
Drunken driving is too prevalent and too deadly to ignore. During this program our police agencies will specifically target impaired driving. If you’re over the limit, you will be arrested. Our goal is not to arrest more drunken drivers. We simply are trying to save lives and prevent injuries. If we can deter people from getting behind the wheel when they’re impaired, we will make progress toward the goal of reducing the number of preventable traffic deaths to Zero In Wisconsin.
This is the first statewide crackdown on drunken driving since a new law took effect on July 1 that significantly strengthens deterrents and increases penalties for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin. The new state law increases jail time for many OWI convictions. In addition, it requires first-offense OWI drivers who were convicted with a blood/breath alcohol level of .15 or higher and all repeat drunken drivers to install an ignition interlock device (IID) on every vehicle that they own or have registered in their name. An IID, which measures breath alcohol levels, makes convicted drunken drivers prove they are sober before they can start a vehicle.
Throughout the state, drunken driving devastates individuals, families and communities. Alcohol-related crashes killed 238 people and injured 3,793 last year. There were approximately 45,000 convictions for drunken driving in Wisconsin in 2009. |

Menasha
Police Officer Jeff Jorgenson was awarded Crime Prevention Practitioner of the year in 2009.
Jeff started in the Crime Prevention position in 2002, and during his seven year tenure in the position initiated many fantastic community programs which provided huge benefits to the citizens of Menasha and the department. Officer Jorgenson was instrumental in starting the abatement program to help landlords and deal with problem tenants. He started the park eviction program to hold park users accountable for their behavior. He also forged many partnerships with local agencies and community groups.
One of his larger accomplishments was the creation of the 12- week Citizen Academy which allows citizens to learn, first-hand, about the jobs our officers do. He started an award winning Bike Safety program bringing bike safety right to the citizens' own neighborhood.
Jeff also took a number of steps to bring crime prevention into the digital age. He created the virtual neighborhood watch system, which provides crime info to those who sign up. He also worked to create the ELERT system which sends information regarding criminal activity on their property to the business and rental property owners or managers. Furthermore, he created the Home Safe Home Alzheimer's database to assist law enforcement in the recovery of vulnerable or missing adults in our city.
The list could go on, but based on the highlights shown above, it is very evident that the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association made the right choice in presenting Officer Jeff Jorgenson with this award. Congratulations Jeff! |
