The main focuses in this program are prevention and control of communicable
diseases (immunization clinics; follow-up on diseases such as meningitis, cryptosporidiosis,
salmonella, measles, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, etc.; bioterrorism
preparedness, including follow-up on potential anthrax and other bioterroristic
incidents; health education and supervisory programs for infants, children,
maternal, and adult health; assessment and monitoring of chronic disease; and
city-wide older adult program which includes the senior center and 60+ health
programs).
The health department receives grants to help fund public health programs at the health department and senior
center.
